And for good measure, me and Athena.

Snow Patrol Concert
I'm finally free to do what I want on the weekends instead of slaving away on homework (although I actually still have one more presentation, but it isn't due til Thursday....so it can wait!). I totally slept in and did nothing until getting read to attend Baby Dane's Dr. Seuss-themed First Birthday Party. It was super cute and fun, and Pam did a great job with the food and decorations.
Then it was off to The Depot to check out Snow Patrol with cousin Phaedra. Her original companion was stuck in Idaho with car troubles, and her loss became my gain. When Phaedra texted me I immediately said yes, eager to get out and enjoy a Saturday with no homework!
I must admit the only Snow Patrol songs I know are the ones on the radio (and that one from that episode of The Vampire Diaries). When "Chasing Cars" was crazy popular how ever many years ago I got sick of its overplay and decided I didn't like Snow Patrol. But when I went on a Snow Patrol song-listening crash course before the concert, I realized some of their songs I liked from hearing on the radio but just didn't know it was them.
I'm also a fan of live music and concerts and believe that even if you don't know the band it'll still be a good time. Snow Patrol put on a great show! I loved it!! There's just something about hearing music that is so awesome. Lead singer Gary Lightbody is incredibly charismatic and an amazing singer. I've never seen a person so genuinely happy to be doing what their doing; most lead singers are just reciting banter they say during every show or are overly manic (I'm looking at you Billie Joe!) but Gary seemed to be completely himself. He'd get this happy smile on his face in between singing lines while he looked out on the audience.
They even sang my discovered-that-day favorite song, "New York." It was awesome. They definitely have a new fan.

29 Years
Today is birthday!! Yay! I love birthdays. I know people get excited for their 30th birthdays as it's such a milestone. But I'm impatient. So I'm celebrating the start of my 30th year, so I can already be awesome and ready when I hit 30 next year.
To start the 30th Year I went for a run this morning.
I then cut up a bunch of fruit, made granola, went to a doctor appointment, pretended to do some homework, got a haircut, had lunch with my sister at B&D, went to Law class, had study group for Law final on Friday, finished up some printing for Workshop class and now I'm sitting home. It was a nice day.
I'm hoping to chronicle some goals for The 30th Year throughout the year. Stay tuned.

Early Birthday
Today I celebrated my birthday early with Lindsay. We partied like I was turning 9 instead of 29. We had pizza (well, were supposed to but ran short on time), drooled over poster-on-the-wall worthy Zac Efron in The Lucky One and had ice cream in a cone. It was awesome.

Old Foto Friday
Me, Jared and Emily with our rockin' Moroni, USA t-shirts. I'm not sure if all the grandkids got them. October 1990, when Emily was the tallest sibling.

My Obsessions
I can get obsessed about things very easily. And when I do, they tend to over take my life. It happened with Lost and hummus and making granola. This is what I'm currently obsessed with.
Fun.
This song by Gotye. It perfectly captures the feelings after a break-up.
The television show Bent. I'm obsessed with Amanda Peet and her fabulous hair.
What is everyone else obsessed with?

Behind
I'm behind. On almost everything. I need to write papers. I need to research. I need to make presentations. I need to study. I need to call about internships. I need to call about doctor bills that I paid. I need to read. I need to sleep. I need to eat.
There's never enough time in the day to get it all done. Also, I'm a procrastinator.
Bad combination.

Book Club: Into the Wild
Since Book Club this month coincided with my birthday month, I got to pick the book. My favorite fairy tale, or at least version of the fairly tale (because I don't think Rapunzel is my all-time favorite fairy tale), is Disney's Tangled so we picked the book Into the Wild by Sara Beth Durst (not to be confused with the Jon Krakauer book and movie. When we discovered the main character's name was Julie, we had to pick it.
Once again we had a good discussion about the book, that ranged from liking aspects of it to critiquing other parts of it. It would be an excellent book for younger girls, such as my niece Ivy and Pam's own niece Carlye. We also talked about a whole lot of other things not related to the book at all. Great night with great people. Sadly, no picture was taken.

Paying for School
I opened up my school e-mail last week, something I do rather infrequently, to find that I had been awarded two scholarships for the upcoming school year!! One was a departmental scholarship and the other was from WTS: Advancing Women in Transportation. I was excited for the departmental one because it meant the teachers in the department thought about me when they were in their scholarship meeting (I'm on the Graduate Admissions Committee so I know this). I was excited for the WTS one because it was directly related to the field I want to make a career in.
Unfortunately, since I'm graduating in Fall semester and the Departmental Scholarship stipulates that the student must be enrolled in Fall and Spring semesters, it was revoked. Totally lame.
But the other one is still good, and last night I went to the WTS Gala where I was recognized for my Scholarship Award. It was very exciting being surrounded by women who all work in transportation. I spoke with the previous year's winners and had a good time. Everyone involved is excited for me and my future career. It was a very cool night. (Pictures were taken but they haven't been posted yet on the website.)
Being there last night was an exciting moment for me. I realized that I'll be graduating soon and will (hopefully) be working in my chosen career. I will be one of those professional women in transportation. Wow.

Rock Me On the Water
This is my new favorite song. I have a feeling if I were alive in the 70s I would've been a huge fan of Jackson Browne. I'm a sucker for the singer/songwriter wielding a guitar.

Old Foto Friday
Ivy, my oldest niece, turned 11 this past week. This is me and her the day she was born, April 3rd, 2001. I sorta love her. (Whoa, that close-up flash is not doing me any favors; I promise I did not wear a layer of white make-up in high school.)
