Book Club: Entwined

This month's book club was Entwined by Heather Dixon. It is a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairy tale (which is Pam's favorite fairy tale). We all enjoyed it and had a great discussion about it, especially the confused identities, family vs. romantic love, and the act of dancing as a way to tell if someone would be a good partner. We also learned that Pam would make an incredible audio-reader.

I Saw The Hunger Games

My mom, sister, friend Pam and myself went to the midnight showing of The Hunger Games last night. I've been looking forward to this for months, loved the books, talked about it nonstop with my friends and family. Of course expectations were high. It didn't suck. Read these if you want to know almost precisely how I feel about it:

My friend Pam's review of the night and movie

NPR's review
Entertainment Weekly's review

I'm still going to see it again with Book Club and other friends. Go check it out if you haven't already!

Old Foto Friday

My mom with me and my sister. I look to be less than a year (right? I'm very bad at judging ages). So this is probably late 1983 or early 1984. I think Em's face is pretty classic. I wonder if 4/5 year old Jared took the photo?

Visit With Grandma

Since it's Spring Break I took the day off work so I could go down to Ephraim and visit my Grandma. She was so excited to see me and have a visitor for the day! We talked, she showed me the scarf she was crocheting, she asked what color of scarf I would like, had lunch together, talked about her family, and how she knows her mind is going and she doesn't know what to do about it. This is really sad, as she says she can't remember Grandpa's funeral 18 years ago. She misses her house, but says they are really good to her where she's at and she'd recommend it to anyone.

She's going to be 99 this year! I hope to be able to visit her more!

Opinions

Guess what? We all have opinions. Guess what else? We live in a world where free speech is allowed. I may not agree with your opinions, but that doesn't make yours wrong or mine right. They are mine and yours. Maybe instead of attacking people for their opinions, we should either learn to accept them, have an adult discussion about them, or just ignore them. This age of constant social media, twitter, and all that makes a lot of non-issues issues. It's tiring.

Good thing I'm taking a Facebook break this week.
