I crossed into New York City on September 1, 2007 via the George Washington Bridge. It cost $12 to do so with the Penske truck we were in. I'll never forget crossing the bridge and entering my new neighborhood, feeling a little overwhelmed and, honestly, a little unprepared. I found my apartment and was greeted by Maria, my new roommate. Then Rosemary showed up with a contingency of people from the ward to help us both move in.

I really do keep everything. Some call it being "packrat" but I prefer the term sentimental.

I'm going to Portland next week for work. It's basically all I can think about. Mainly because I love cities, I love traveling, I love new places, I love staying in hotels. Em and I made a visit to Portland during Fall Break 2011. On our visit, since we were tired from walking, and a theater was right across the street from our hotel, we stopped in to see The Ides of March. This movie had a lot of buzz because Hollywood loves George Clooney and not only did he start in this film but he also directed it and produced it and wrote the screenplay. The movie, however, lived up to its buzz.

If you remember '98 (and who doesn't), you might remember that Drew Barrymore was having a moment. It was the time after Scream but before Never Been Kissed. That summer she starred in The Wedding Singer and Ever After: A Cinderella Story. Not huge box-office money-makers, but respectable bows nonetheless. Then there was Home Fries, released that November. She played fast food worker Sally Jackson, impregnated by a married man whose step-son (who was her then-boyfriend Luke Wilson) falls in love with her when he's supposed to kill her. I know that sounds strange and not funny, but the movie is quirky and entirely full of dark humor. It's a hard tone to set but the film does it well.

I just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife (which I got at the thrift store for a dollar). This book was crazy popular a few years ago. So popular that it was made into a movie starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. I saw this movie (obviously). This was the summer I moved back to Salt Lake. I had no job and no money, but my sister and I made the trek down to The District to see it.

The movie was fine, but if you read the book you'll get, as usual, a lot more from the story. As I was reading it, I wondered if it would be nice to know your whole life who you were going to marry. It would certainly take the stress and worry out of dating and all that. But also the surprise and fun...and the stress and worry. While I do dislike stress and worry, I really like surprises and would hate to give that up.

The summer of 2008 saw two movies that involved asteroids hurtling toward Earth that needed to be knocked off their path to save billions of people from dying. I preferred Deep Impact over Armageddon. This is my second ticket stub from this movie, and my journal entry from that day mentions that I cried the first time I saw it.

Today's ticket stub is from a very popular movie back in 1999--She's All That. For any one who's not familiar with this classic--Zack, Mr. Popular, makes a bet with his best friend that he can make any Laney Boggs, a "frumpy" art student, into Prom Queen. I use "frumpy" in quotes because the fact that wearing glasses and overalls and liking art can make someone frumpy in Hollywood is just funny. The movie works mainly because of Freddie Prinze, Jr.'s charm and the fun secondary characters (Usher! Anna Paquin! Kevin Pollack!). This ticket stub is from February 5th, 1999, which was my mom's 46th birthday. However, I probably saw this with friends and not my mom....but I really don't know. Since I was 15 and kind of a brat I probably saw it with friends.

All my tickets from my Matchbox Twenty concerts. Well, except for the ticket from NYC which I can't find. There are a lot of good memories associated with these tickets; good times with good people. I will note again that summer 2003 was epic, not only for movies but also for concerts. The same month I saw Matchbox I also saw Tim McGraw and went to Champions on Ice with Lindsay. It was probably the perfect summer.

 Bend it Like Beckham was an independent film getting tons of buzz in the spring/summer of 2003. It took awhile, but it finally arrived in Pocatello and Lindsay-loo and I jumped on the chance to see it. The movie did not disappoint! It's sweet and funny and awesome. And introduced us to the yummy Jonathan Rhys Meyers.










The Summer of 2003 was pretty epic, as I remember seeing a ton of movies (Finding Nemo, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Pirates of the Caribbean, just to name a few from that summer), eating a lot of snowcones, and doing a good amount of  just chillin' before actually doing something with my life.

I always like to see a movie on or around my birthday (I love when I have a Friday birthday and all the movie trailers and posters have my birthdate listed). This is my ticket stub from 10 Things I Hate About You, dated April 20, 1999, which means it was more than likely my birthday movie that year. However, with some investigation, it turns out that that date was a Tuesday night and my birthday fell on a Saturday.




At any rate, I probably saw this movie with friends, as I was a sophomore in high school and I remember my friend Kim absolutely loving this movie. Heath Ledger has never been my type, but I must admit that I, along with everyone else, thought his singing scene in the movie was pretty swoon-worthy. It's actually aged quite well, and is pretty notable now for having the Joker and Robin in the cast!

My ticket stub from Moulin Rouge, June 14, 2001. My best friend, Lindsay-loo, loves Ewan McGregor, so I'm pretty sure I saw this movie with her. I remember when we saw it a second time, driving up to Provo from Snow College to see it in that theater by BYU, but this ticket stub is from when we saw it the first time.


(It's hard to read because it's pretty faded because the ticket stub is from 2001!)

This is the third film in Baz Luhrmann's Red Curtain Trilogy. It starts off a little crazy, and I remember thinking What has Lindsay roped me into seeing? But if you can get past the first twenty minutes or so, it is a beautiful story told in a wonderful Baz sort of way. Watch it if you haven't!

I keep all my movie ticket stubs. I have since I can remember going to the movies regularly, which started around '96 when I lived in Pocatello. For a long time I've wanted to do something with these, like create a huge collage or something to put on my wall. Until I get around to that, I am going to start Ticket Stub Tuesday on my blog.

My ticket stubs from the Special Edition releases of Star Wars. Until this point, I had only ever seen the trilogy on tv. I was beyond excited for these re-releases because I was finally going to see these most awesome movies on the BIG SCREEN! They were released in the Spring of '97, and while I am not a fan of the Special Edition Star Wars, I won't ever forget the experience.
